IKEA trip very prosperous

So I've been having a hard time finding shelving that both would work and that I liked for the store for the fabric. I decided a trip to IKEA was in store and I'm so glad that we went. I found these bookshelves that are perfect and were on sale.

We already have two put together and they look great. I also found some lighting, an area rug and some other small items. Finally everything is coming together.

I'm also so so close to finalizing a logo that I hope to post by Friday. I also received to UPS notices that I have items coming in next week-check back to see what they are-I don't even know because the notice doesn't even tell me where it's from. I'm guessing the Daisy Janie organics and hmmmmmm....not sure about the other one-maybe some more fabrics I ordered at Market.

Cutting Fabric

So I wanted to take a moment and explain my philosophy of cutting fabric for the shop and customers. Sometimes when our bolts come in the first cut can be a little rough. The end cut by the manufacturer isn't always(usually isn't) straight and as a fabric store owner I had to decide how to deal with that. I could have just cut off 2"-5" to create a straight line and have this random scrap of fabric or I could cut the yardage and give the customer that extra piece. I chose the later because honestly I don't want that random piece of fabric hanging around here and I'd rather someone else get a little extra that they might be able to use than let it go to waste-hope you don't mind!

So if you bought some fabric this weekend you might notice the cut isn't as straight as normal, but you should have received a little extra than what was labeled-

On a completely different note: our Robert Kaufman organics-prints and solids have been delayed but we hope to have them in any day now along with the daisy janie organics....

A Great Weekend!

Saturday turned out to be a great day at the Urban Garage Sale. We were able to get our name out there, let people know where we were going to be and what we are going to do, share some of the fabrics with the public and get some very valuable feedback, oh and can't forget meeting so many great people.

There was a really good turnout at the Sale, unfortunately I forgot the camera so I didn't get any pics of our booth, but I think it looked pretty good and showcased a lot of what we have to offer. Hopefully we have a couple of new blog readers and followers now too. The sale has motivated me to get my butt moving and finish the details in order to get the doors open-stay tuned for an opening date coming soon!

Thanks everyone for coming!!!!

Urban Garage Sale and Teaming Up with Some Very Talented Ladies

So if you are a facebook fan of drawstring studio you've seen me already mentioning this, but I thought I'd give it another plug because I'm so excited about it. We are going to have a booth at the Urban Garage Sale this Saturday at Turner Hall, doors are open from 10:30-4pm and there are going to be so many great deals from a variety of local shops. Our booth will be on the second floor so if you do get a chance to stop by make sure to venture up the stairs to see us. I've been cutting fabric for bundles and getting all of the inventory ready this week. I'm going to debue the checkbook covers there too before putting them on Etsy. Plus if you bring in the flyer, you get $1 off admission. Click here for the flyer

In other news we passed our occupancy inspections and have gotten the verbal ok to open!!!! I will get the official notice in the mail in a few weeks. We're now on the search for shelving that meets the idea I have in mind, yet isn't too too expensive.

I've had the opportunity to join forces with a couple of crafty ladies recently and am excited about what is to come from that. I teamed up with Sara from Sasa Originals to have her create some of her hot/cold animals using some fabrics from our store. I hope to get one in the mail this week so that I can raffle it off on Saturday. Sara makes some amazing kids items-you should check her out-this is one of her owls-meet Betsy!

Also check out So You Think You're Crafty starting on Saturday and look for some fabric from our shop-these ladies always have such great ideas-vote for your favorite-they're down to the last two crafters!!!!

I'm hoping to interview both Sara from Sasa Originals and my mystery partner from So You Think You're Crafty in the near future to give you a better look into what they do.

checking items off the list!

Today was a busy and for the most part productive day in terms of getting closer to being able to set a date for the GRAND OPENING of drawstring studio fabric & design. I've been meaning to get a lot of little tasks done and kept putting them off until today-FINALLY!

Plus I added a few new items to our etsy shop www.drawstringstudio.etsy.com

Also please become a fan on Facebook HERE to stay updated on the latest fabrics coming in, featured projects and giveaways,a s well as featured artists and crafters(I hope to feature my first crafter shortly).

I also started cutting and organizing some bundles for the Urban Garage Sale that drawstring studio is going to have a booth at on June 19th! You can find out more info HERE. We're not only going to have fabric by the yard, cut bundles, patterns, but also hope to have wallets and gift card holders if I can get my sewing machine back up and running soon. This will be our first real meeting and introduction to the people of Milwaukee-so I'm super excited. Now we're just going to be in a mad dash to get out marketing materials together for the show.

I am also going to try to schedule our inspector back out late this week so fingers crossed that we get the final green light!

Backorders-aughhhh

I was excited last week when I received UPS confirmation that some of the fabrics I ordered at Market were coming. Well the box came today, and after I tore it open I realized that almost half of the fabrics had been backordered-big bummer! But the ones I received were great and most of them are up on our Etsy store now. Here are a couple of them...
